The next Racer Recap features the 2020 MT Class champion Wes Harriger. After a slow start, Wes finished the year on a hot streak taking the racing win in Round 3, the freestyle win for Rounds 4 and 5, and an overall event win for Round 4. He also had one of the craziest saves we’ve ever seen during the North vs South freestyle competition where his “Taurus” truck seemed to breakdance across the track. Here are his thoughts on the 2021 season.
Name: Wes Harriger
How long have you been racing RC monster trucks?
This season marked my second year racing monster trucks.
What was your biggest accomplishment this season?
I would say getting two new 2.6 MT class trucks set up to my driving style. The first two rounds were pretty challenging trying to find a set up on the trucks that worked for me. Also I feel my freestyle skills have improved a lot.
Who was your toughest competition this year?
I think my toughest competition this year was my truck setup and mechanical issues the first two rounds then after that it was Sam Elliot. It seemed like we were always matched up every round, sometimes he would win and some time I would. We had a great back and for battle all year. It made the season a lot of fun.
What are you trying to improve on this off-season?
I need to work on cleaning up some small mistakes that cost me race wins.
What are your thoughts on how the Points Series went this year?
I think the series went great, everything was a stepped up from last year. I think the whole team that helped learned a lot and will be able to add that knowledge to improve next season.
What trucks/classes are you planning to compete in next season?
Next season Taurus & Bigfoot will return for the 2.6 MT class & Coors Extra Gold for the Retro class. I’m also planning on running in the 2.2 class next season. Plans for the truck are up in the air on which way I go with a chassis & truck name. I have a few options that I’m tossing around.
