The next Racer Recap features Zac Soares who joined the series midway through the season but is quickly making a name for himself. He’s also been bitten by the solid-axle R/C monster truck bug and plans on going big next season. Give him a follow on Instagram @zwshobbies. Here are his thoughts as he prepped to go down to Southern California to compete in the Winter Finals.
Name: Zac Soares
Trucks: Excaliber (SMT10 and Clodbuster)
Sponsors: Black Market RC
What got you into R/C monster trucks?
The 2nd gen T-Maxx: I had wanted a “hobby grade” R/C since I was little but my parents had seen how quickly the toy grade ones broke and since those were not repairable for the most part, they assumed the hobby grade would have the same fate. Once I could afford my own, I bought an RTR T-Maxx since I wouldn’t need smooth pavement to run it. I really love that truck and still own it today.
What was your biggest accomplishment this season?
I started late in the season, so finishing 4th in the final event. Next year I am looking to bigger heights.
What are you looking to improve on next season?
Truck: I have taken the stock chassis as far as I can. I will be building two aftermarket chassis. One will be the next generation of Excaliber, the other will be a truck of my creation with the help of friends. Driving: I am working every week on honing my skills and learning the truck’s limits. I am dying to get some more track time!
What are your thoughts on how the Points Series went this year?
I think this year shows that consistency pays dividends. I also think that this series shows that the people that put this event on are dedicated and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep it going, even in the face of adversity.
What are you planning on running next season?
Excaliber under a Warpath chassis, Excaliber retro clod, and a new truck with an original name with a Black Market RC chassis.
