The Losi LMT is a stout beast of a truck right out of the box that is easily the best value you can get off the shelf from your local hobby shop. This has become a popular platform and is a proven performer in the solid-axle monster truck scene that provides a gateway for anyone to get into solid-axle R/C monster truck racing and be competitive with minimal modifications. There are a variety of ready to race trucks such as the Grave Digger, Son Uva Digger, as well as Bog Hog and King Sling mud truck versions, and now Losi has added the TLR Tuned LMT kit that you can build yourself. We’ve been getting questions about the trucks, so here’s some answers to the most asked questions related to the truck and running it in the series. Make sure to review the Class Rules for more details such as allowable width, batteries, and more.
- Is the Losi LMT legal to run in the MT class or will it be its own class?
Answer: While the LMT has larger axles and the stock bodies are closer to 1/8 scale giving it a larger look, they are 1/10 scale solid-axle monster trucks and are legal to run in the series with some minor modifications in both the 2.2 and 2.6 MT classes. There will not be a designated LMT spec class for the Points Series.
2. What modifications need to be made to race in the Nor Cal RC Monster Trucks Points Series events?
Answer: The LMT has a center transmission which comes stock with a center differential and allows for quick changes with an optional spool. The optional spool (part # LOS242041) will need to be installed in order to be legal to race.
Additionally, the LMT comes with a short course-style wheel with a larger inner diameter rim which is not a traditional monster truck-style wheel. Traditional 2.6 Clodbuster-style monster truck wheels (JConcepts Tributes, Proline Brawlers, RC4WD Igniters, etc.) will be required to compete in the 2.6 MT class. Pre-mounted tires with the 2.6 x 3.8 wheels are not allowed.
The TLR Tuned LMT kit comes with upgraded housings that have new aluminum components, lower CG battery, TLR link-mounted shocks and a longer 15″ wheelbase in addition to a shorter carbon fiber chassis that is just short of meeting the requirements for the Points Series. However, racers can choose to run a shorter 13.5″ set of links made by Losi (part # TLR144001) or some of the many aftermarket options available from Treal, Black Market RC, and SCMT to name a few. Another option would be to add the GPM Carbon Fiber Front/Rear Chassis Side Panels (part #GPM LMT014F/R) which share the same style front plate as the Diggers and Mud Trucks if you wish to use the links that come with the kit.
3. How do I mount aftermarket Clodbuster-style wheels?
Answer: The class rules allow for a maximum width of 16.5″ for the 2.6 MT Class. For example, the JConcepts Tribute wheels with the 18mm hex adapters they come with will give the truck the equivalent of the stock stance (pictured below with Golden Years tires). JConcepts now offers a 25mm offset adaptor (#2982-3377) for 17mm hex based vehicles that will bolt straight to the Tribute wheels with standard hardware allowing a driver who already has Tribute wheels mounted to their favorite tire the ability to add them straight to an LMT.
4. What happens if more than one person is running the same body?
Answer: In the (likely) event that we have multiple Grave Diggers/Son Uva Diggers, they will be tracked by last name in the Points Series Standings. If you want to campaign a different body, 1/10 scale monster truck bodies made to fit 12.5″- 13″ wheelbases will work on these trucks.
