The biggest solid-axle R/C monster truck event on the West Coast is back as WrenchHead RC and BlackMarket RC present the Nor Cal R/C Monster Truck Showdown coming to AMain Silver Dollar R/C Raceway in Chico, CA on Saturday, August 6th for one big night of racing and freestyle! We anticipate another great turnout as racers from all over California, Nevada and even Colorado have already RSVP’d. We will once again be racing on an all-dirt track with scale obstacles for freestyle.
This year’s event will be a mix of our previous annual exhibition event formats and will only be for the 2.6 solid-axle Monster Truck class. This year will feature a one-hour practice session where each entry will get a practice pass in each lane followed by qualifying with all trucks making two timed passes on the race course with the faster time used for seeding. The top 31 trucks will be seeded into the main field with spots 32 and on being placed in the BMRC Shootout Bracket to make the final spot of the main field.
Due to the size of the field and to keep things interesting, freestyle will be a bit different this year. Trucks will still get 100 seconds to have a full run, but just like the real thing, once you roll over, your run is done. Your run will end either by filling the clock or when the truck has rolled over and stopped all momentum or is broken to where it can no longer move. Rocking the truck back and forth using forward/reverse once the truck is on its lid will not be considered a save. Freestyle runs will be scored on a 40-point scale by four different judges with the following breakdown: 10 points for time used with a point being awarded for every 10 seconds filled with judge’s discretion to round up or down, 10 points for the use of the track (ie. hitting all the obstacles), 10 points for momentum and speed, and 10 points for the stunts and variety of tricks performed. Additionally, as the event goes on, much like World Finals in the glory days of Monster Jam, additional obstacles will be brought out as the event goes on.
On the day of the event, you will first take your trucks to be tech inspected and receive a registration form. Please familiarize yourself with the class rules and send us your questions prior to the event if you are unsure about the legality of your truck. Note: if you have already passed tech inspections for the Nor Cal Points Series, you will still need to get a registration form and have the truck signed off. Once your trucks are cleared, you will register and receive a number for qualifying order for each truck you enter. Entry fees are $20 for the first truck and $10 for the second. As a reminder, this event is not part of the Points Series and season passes do not apply. Racers will receive a raffle ticket for each entry and additional tickets can be purchased in sets of 3 for $5. Registration and tech inspections will only be open from 3:30 to 5:00. To help expedite things, please pre-register here.
