Racer Recap: Jake Jensen

The next Racer Recap features another first year racer from Reno, NV and true badass driver: Jake Jensen!

How many years have you been racing R/C Monster Trucks?

This was my first year racing R/C Monster Trucks. My son and I really enjoyed this series, and we are planning on competing next season.

What other forms of R/C do you enjoy?

I do a lot of 1/10 scale racing. I love the short course trucks and just finished building a 2wd buggy. I have a few drag cars as well, but my favorites are the Bashers. The Traxxas Sledge, Losi Super Rock Rey and the Maxx are my favorites.

The crawlers will always have a special place in my heart. I was in an accident and lost the use of my right arm from the shoulder down almost 10 years ago. I sold all my RC’s and thought I was done. One day my son showed up with a TRX4. It only took a few minutes to figure out how to drive it one handed with my left hand. That little crawler started my love affair with RC’s again. I have just finished modding my 8th TRX4 and too many other RC’s to count.

What did you think of the 2023 Points Series?

I really enjoyed this series. I made some great friends and learned so much. It was a lot of fun.

Who was your toughest competition this year?

My toughest competition was everyone. First year rookie mistakes and having no idea what I was doing made for a rough start to the season.

What was your biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment this year was a win in the 2.2 Freestyle. This was my first one handed win and was a shock to me after having to finish my run in reverse and only being able to turn left. Finally winning the Novice class in the final round was pretty cool as well.

What are your offseason plans?

So far this off season I have spent my time at the RC drag strip and crawlers all while planning the numerous upgrades for all of our monster trucks.

What are your goals for next year?

My goals next year are pretty simple. I want to make fewer mistakes and win more races while having tons of fun. I plan on running a 2.6, 2.2 and retro. I have had lots of fun with the FMS smasher if you are considering a mini class.

Anyone to thank/other thoughts?

I have so many people to thank. My son for all his help, my wife for tolerating all this, Whip It RC, AMain Hobbies, and Amazon for keeping all the trucks running. I also want to thank Sam, Jeremy, Dave and all the racers from the NorCal RC Monster truck series. Everyone was willing to help, was patient while we learned, and even kicked in parts to keep us going during several of the events. Really a great group of racers.
