After 4 hard fought rounds, it all comes down to this! Who will take home the end of the year trophies and claim the first Points Series Championship and who is out to play spoiler and try and pick up some hardware for the final round? Let’s meet the contenders for the class championships and what is at stake for the final round!
2.2 Class
Barring a total catastrophic collapse, Torey Heath is going to be leaving Round 5 with the overall 2.2 championship. Throughout the season, his “Joker” truck has been nearly unstoppable in racing and has had to eliminate his team truck “El Jefe” on a number of occations. However, racing is only part of the equation and a challenger has emerged: Chris Prestwood.
While Heath has been dominant in the racing brackets, Prestwood has been unstoppable in freestyle taking all of the trophies home since Round 2. Despite missing Round 1, Prestwood is only 1 point out of second place and only 3 points behind the “Fat Cat Customz” Freestyle championship. Prior to the series starting, it was decided that if a driver had more than one entry, they could only occupy one spot on the podium (but will get an increased purse share), therefore there’s another battle looming for the final spot on the podium.
Taylor Underhill and Mikey Harris are both very much in contention for the final podium position with only 10 points separating the two of them. Needless to say, every point will matter during Round 5!
2.6 Class
It should come as no surprise that the trucks at the top have been at every event of the series. It doesn’t hurt that they’re all very competitive and want to win too!
Todd Henderson took the racing win in Round 4 beating Heath in the finals of a stacked field and recaptured the 2.6 Class lead. The win put Henderson 11 points ahead of Heath for the 2.6 Overall Championship going into the final event. Henderson is becoming known for his all or nothing freestyles and is the current Fat Cat Customz Freestyle leader by 5 points. Lurking right behind in the freestyle standings is Jeremy Bunting’s “Bad Company”. Bunting has a podium position all but locked up, but is a long shot to move up as it should be a dog fight between Heath and Henderson for the Championship.
Payout
Besides trophies, raffle prizes, and Fat Cat Customz wrapped bodies, there’s some cash at stake too! Below are the payout scenarios for each class based on the prize pools (the 2.6 class prize pool is slightly larger due to more entries throughout the season, hence the larger payouts):
For 2.6, 1st place will receive $125, 2nd place $75, and 3rd will get $50.
For 2.2, because it is very likely we will have a racer occupy two podium positions, the 1st place pay will be a higher percentage, but how much depends on where the other truck finishes. If the same racer comes in 1st and 2nd, the payout is: 1st: $120, 2nd: $50, and 3rd: $30 (which would be the 4th place truck moving to the podium and 3rd place moving into 2nd). If the same racer comes in 1st and 3rd, the payout becomes 1st: $110, 2nd: $60 and 3rd remains $30 with the 4th place truck moving into 3rd place.
